The 21st century is a remarkable one – information travels at a speed never seen before. With the advent of communication, people have developed empathy. Every day, there is news of war, poverty, people dying and children hurting. On the other hand, we as a society have grown, our living standards have become better, and our financial position has grown.
Surveys show that people are now more eager than ever to give back to the society. Out of those who had been surveyed, 85 in every 100 people surveyed wanted to donate and give back to the society. Around 40% of the survey participants wanted to give back some time by volunteering in several initiatives taken by governmental and non-governmental organizations to benefit those in need. There are now more and more number of people mentoring young kids, spending time with the elderly, caring for the poor, etc.
The survey further shows that the things they look for when deciding the cause and the organisation they can donate best too, people look for transparency. As a donor, I would be happy and encouraged to give more when I know that my contribution has made a difference and how someone has benefitted from it.
Charitable organisations can attract more benefactors when they are transparent. Periodic newsletters can be helpful when it comes to instilling faith and ensuring loyalty to the organisation to donate further. Communicating with the donors and establishing a good relationship with them can also highly benefit the organisation.
